Season 06/07

John Street Clinch Treble...........

After an exciting finish to the Cockermouth and District snooker league season, it was John Street who maintained their season long fine form to walk away with a marvellous treble after winning the division 1 title, 7 a side knockout and division 1 top four play off.

Going into the final league fixture at home to Senhouse ‘C’, the John Street side knew a 4-2 victory would see them lift the trophy. After an edgy encounter the home side forged out a 3-2 lead, earning themselves at least a play-off, with Simon Frazer last on against ???  With some quality potting Frazer took control of the game leaving ??? needing two snookers with only the pink and black remaining. Frazer, never one to make things easy for himself, somehow managed to go in off the pink before failing to get out of a snooker and gifting an unlikely opportunity to his opponent. However after several nervous shots it was Frazer who clinched the frame with an excellent long pot on the pink to take the league title by a single point from Derwent ‘A’.

In the final of the 7 a side played at Maryport Social Club, it was John Street against league runners up Derwent ‘A’. With victories for Peter O’Hagan, Simon Frazer and Tony Elliott it was John Street who went into a 3-1 and on course to claim their second title. The fifth frame saw Stuart Ryan take on Joe Bell in a closely fought battle until Ryan took a healthy lead by potting the final two reds with blacks followed by the yellow. A few visits later he potted the green and brown to clinch the frame and a second title for John Street.

Workington Legion played host to the division 1 top four play off final and an eagerly awaited clash between John Street and Maryport Social Club. The final match of the season turned out to be a one sided affair with Peter O’Hagan, Mark Tunstall, Simon Frazer and Stephen Mcleod playing some excellent snooker to earn John Street an emphatic 4-0 victory and the treble clinching trophy.

The 2006/07 season is sure to go down as John Street’s best ever, having won the treble despite having to concede between 7 and 28 points in every frame, to all but three other division 1 teams, throughout all competitions due to the handicapping system.
